Circular trail from Maloja to the Belvedere tower with great views down into the Bergell valley.
Distance 2.1 km
Highest point1,872 m
Lowest point1,808 m
The circular trail starts at the Maloja Posta bus station. Passing the former studio of the painter Segantini, it leads through a sparse pine forest to the Torre Belvedere. The tower was once part of a castle with which the Belgian Count Renesse wanted to turn Maloja into a European top destination. Today the tower stands lonely in a nature reserve with marshlands and glacial potholes from the last Ice Age. After a long look down into the Bergell, we follow the path that winds north and east and leads back to the village on the main road after about an hour.
Refreshment stops: Hotel Restaurant Longhin, Hotel Restaurant Schweizerhaus.
