Author’s recommendation

Demanding tour that should only be undertaken in the best ski touring conditions!

If you feel uncertain about it, we recommend that you make an appointment with a mountain guide.

Destination

Maloja

Turn-by-turn directions

From Maloja, head east along the cross-country ski trails and summer paths through forest clearings to Plan di Cavai. Bypass the rocky outcrop to the north and then climb quite steeply on the ridge in a south-southeasterly direction to approx. 2440 m. Traverse eastwards to the slopes of the Murtairac. A rather flat ascent follows until the access to the prominent north groove at the back of the basin. Shoulder your skis and, preferably with crampons, climb the steep couloir up to the northeast ridge. Continue along the ridge to the summit.

Downhill along the ascent route.
