Glacier horn
Those who follow the call of the name will be disappointed: you won't find any glaciers on the Gletscherhorn. White splendour is nevertheless guaranteed in the high-altitude Averstal. To enjoy the beautiful view of the Bernina massif and the Bergell, you need patience and stamina, the ascent through the Bergalga, a side valley of the Averstal, is long. Except for the steep 35° slope to the summit, the tour is not very challenging. For the last 100 metres of ascent from the Gletscherhorn saddle to the summit, you either need an absolutely safe hairpin bend technique or you climb on foot, possibly with crampons if the slope is icy.
